Svarāj – A Journey with Tyeb Mehta’s Shantiniketan Triptych,’ is a text of many-sided exploration, in which the philosopher, Ramachandra Gandhi brings to the task of understanding a great work of contemporary Indian art, and its historical context, the timeless and universal insights of Advaita Vedānta. It records a double journey of inquiring into the complex symbolism of the triptych and the deeper meaning of ‘Svarāj’ which is self realization. This path-breaking and thought provoking book will be discussed and debated, inviting the participation of the audience.
The panelists are, noted poet and writer Dilip Chitre, artist Baiju Parthan and the editor of Art India Abhay Sardesai. The discussion will be moderated by philosopher and academician Prabodh Parikh.
